PIQUA — The Upper Valley Career Center Board Of Education honored Student Senate leaders at the board meeting held Monday evening.

Student Senate Advisor Jennifer Henke introduced the 2016-17 Senate leaders to board members: President Dylan Hensley, Houston; Vice-President Nikki Allen, Fort Loramie; Secretary Andieleigh Emerick, Troy; Treasurer Hadley Johnson, Troy; Historian Drew Alt, Russia.

Hensley thanked the board for their strong support.

“We work hard to serve as advocates and leaders to the student body at Upper Valley Career Center while making a difference in our community. Thank you for this opportunity and your continued support,” Hensley said.

The Senate is comprised of thirty-two members that serve as advocates for the student body, provide leadership and direction in the planning and implementation of activities, and encourage student engagement.

The Senate recently held a coat drive appropriately named “Operation Cover-Up” collecting 675 coats for distribution throughout Miami County.

Johnson said there is plenty of reward in serving as a voice for the student body.

“I enjoy projects and events because they help unite the Career Center staff and students,” she said. “This helps me grow as an individual by exploring my own leadership abilities.”

Senate leadership roles are appointed through an application process held at the beginning of the school year and is open to all juniors and seniors.
