Bergman wins FL spelling bee

FORT LORAMIE — After 24 rounds of spelling 180 different words, the word “mahogany” resulted in the Fort Loramie Spelling Bee’s champion being named.

Seventh-grader Lauren Bergman, daughter of Keith and Amy Bergman, became the titleholder.

The annual competition for students in grades 4 through 8 took place Dec. 2 in the Fort Loramie Elementary School.

The runner-up was sixth-grader Austin Pleiman, son of Matt and Nicole Pleiman. In third place was seventh-grader Abby Wrasman, and in fourth place was sixth-grader Caleb Mauer.

Frank Turner pronounced words to the 25 student contestants. Laurie Nosek and Lisa Schmiesing were the judges.
