Fifth-grader wins Fairlawn bee

SIDNEY — After 14 rounds of spelling words, fifth-grader Liliana Phillips was named the winner of the Fairlawn Spelling Bee.

Students in grades 3-8 competed in a school spelling bee organized by Tracy Eilerman and Elementary Principal John Stekli. The bee was judged by Rita Gilfillen, Fairlawn Superintendent Jeff Hobbs and Sarah Klienhans.

The first runner-up was sixth-grade student Darcy Maxson, daughter of Mike and Liz Maxson. The second runner-up was Rielee Richmond, daughter of James Richmond and Tracy Richmond.

Liliana, daughter of Keith and Sonya Phillips, will move on the compete in the Regional Spelling Bee in Lima on March 11.
