Sidney BOE hires new staff members

SIDNEY — The awarding of contracts for the 2017-18 school year was the main topics of conversation during Monday night’s Sidney City Schools Board of Education meeting. The board also took care of several items dealing with the current school year, which is rapidly coming to a close.

Five new staff members were hired during the meeting.

Kristin Morgan was hired as a math teacher. She is College Credit Plus (CCP) certified and will be able to teach the classes at Sidney High School. She is currently employed by Dayton Public Schools. Her one-year contract begins Aug. 15, 2017, and is for $66,118.

Kevin Stapleton was hired as the transition alternative school coordinator on a one-year contract. He will be paid $23.79 per hour. His contract begins Aug. 21, 2017. He is currently employed at Fairlawn Local Schools.

Morgan Headings was hired as a full-time floating substitute for the district. Her one-year contract begins Aug. 15, 2017, and she will be paid $37,567 for the year.

Melissa Welch was hired as a school psychologist effective Aug. 9, 2017. She was given a two-year contract at $67,114 peer year. She is currently employed by the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center.

The board also hired Dan Barnes as the new Sidney High School assistant principal. He received a two-year, 220 day contract effective Aug. 1, 2017. He will be paid $80,637 per year. Barnes, who is currently a teacher at Sidney Middle School, is in the process of earning his license to become a principal. He has four classes to finish, which will be completed by Christmas. He will be pursing an alternative principal license. Once he completes three years with the license, he will be able to get a five-year professional license.

John Michalos was hired as the district’s technology coordinator effective July 1, 2017, though July 31, 2019. He will be paid $84,794 per year with his salary prorated from July 1, 2017 to July 31, 2017. Michalos is currently the district’s technology specialist/network engineer.

Administrative contracts were also awarded by the board. Receiving contracts were:

• Jerry Harmon, director of business operations, one-year contract, 260 days, $99,813.

• Jayne Evans, psychologist, three-year contract, 205 days per year, &3,349.

• Stacey Lefeld, psychologist, three-year contract, 205 days per year, $69,608.

• Kevin Boerger, middle school assistant principal, three-year contract, 215 days per year, $84,891.

• Keith Helmlinger, elementary principal, three-year contract, 215 days per year, $93,107.

• Michael Moore, elementary principal, three-year contract, 215 days per year, $88,119.

• Diane Voress, middle school principal, three-year contract, 225 days per year, $98,095.

• Tiffany Rank, communications coordinator, three-year contract, 260 days per year, $65,674.

Two changes of assignment were approved by the board.

Kandi Shipman will transfer from technology support to network engineer effective July 1, 2017. She will be paid $37.25 per hour.

Brian Moses will transfer from custodian to technology support effective July 1, 2017. He will be paid $19.94 per hour from July 1 to July 31, 2017. Effective Aug. 1, he will be on a 215-day contract at $19.94 per hour.

For the remainder of the 2016-17 school year, the board hired Jason Miller as a substitute aide. He will be paid $11.01 per hour.

The board accepted the resignations of Anthony Moeder, school psychologist, effective July 31, 2017; Stephen McWilliams, custodian, effective May 4, 2017; Victoria Purk, junior varsity volleyball coach; and Travis Cooper, speech therapist, effective July 31, contingent upon approval of a contract from the Montgomery County Educational Service Center Board.

The board also approved students for graduation with the Class of 2017 on Saturday, May 27. The class has approximately 260 students.
