Ballas wins bank scholarship

FORT LORAMIE — Thomas Ballas, a senior at Fort Loramie High School, has been awarded a $1,200 college scholarship by the Fort Loramie Branch of Osgood State Bank.

The son of Mike and Karen Ballas, of Fort Loramie, plans to attend the Ohio State University to study computer science and engineering.

Ballas was a member of the marching, concert and pep bands and of the Science Olympiad, track and field and cross country teams and was president of the National Honor Society. He earned All-Ohio and Academic All-Ohio honors in both sports, was named Business Student of the Year, a Buckeye Boys State delegate and a National Merit Commended Scholar, and received a Honda Math Medal.

Ballas has been active in 4-H and was awarded Outstanding of the Day for woodworking, electricity and exercise science projects at the Ohio State Fair. He has volunteered his time at St. Michael Catholic Church as a catechist at vacation Bible school, a Mass server and eucharistic minister, a lector during children’s liturgies and a member of the adult Christmas and Easter choirs. He has assisted at Special Olympics events and Camp Dalanda and attended the HOBY Leadership Conference. He has maintained a 4.0 grade point average.
