No career tech for NK middle school

NEW KNOXVILLE — New Knoxville Local Schools will not offer middle school career technical programming during the 2017-2018 school year.

The decision was made by the New Knoxville Board of Education during its May 22 meeting.

In other business, the board:

• Hired the following people: Anthony Stammen, Jadyn Lauth and Levi Hughes, summer cleaning crew; Cory Canan, High School Scholastic Bowl adviser, and pep band, instrumental and summer band director; Marna Katterheinrich, Junior High Scholastic Bowl adviser; Terry Halko, Student Council adviser, golf coach and boys eighth grade basketball coach; Mary Wiest, National Honor Society adviser; and Jim Niekamp, Spanish Club adviser.

Also, Kim Wirwille, eighth grade Washington, D.C., trip and transportation coordinator; Michelle Peters and Jade Deerhake, eighth grade concessions advisers; Linda Wolf, God, Flag, and Country and Pep Club adviser; Sharon Wittler, fine arts and National Honor Society adviser; Scott Schroer, OSHA adviser; Karla Eilerman, yearbook adviser; Janet Eshelman and Kathy Frankenberg, summer camp instructors; and Tim Hegemier, girls varsity basketball coach.

Also, Matt Gabel, girls varsity basketball assistant coach; Jeff Henschen, girls seventh grade basketball coach; Dennis Henschen, girls eighth grade basketball coach; Josh Lisi, boys varsity basketball coach and weight room adviser; Anthony Lisi, boys varsity basketball assistant coach; Andrew Arnett, boys junior varsity basketball coach; Matt Stetler, freshman boys basketball coach; Ron Reineke, boys seventh grade basketball coach.

Also, Morgan (Reineke) Strayer, varsity volleyball and elementary girls volleyball coach and weight room adviser; Casey Phillips, varsity volleyball assistant coach; Paige Lehman, girls seventh grade volleyball coach; Shelley Henschen, girls eighth grade volleyball coach; Matt Stetler, varsity soccer coach; Olivia Spieles, high school cheerleading adviser; Abby Bushman, junior high cheerleading adviser; Jenny Fledderjohann, fall sports supervisor; and Stephanie Boyle Fledderjohann, high school cross country coach.

Also Samantha Fledderjohann, junior high cross country coach; and Kay Webb, athletic director.

• Approved athletic ticket prices for 2017-2018.

• Accepted donations of $350 by Steve L. Trout to support the weight room and of $1,000 by Teresa and Chuck Rowen.
• Approved revisions to the athletic handbook.
• Approved contracts with Assistive Technology and the Tri-Star Career Center.
• Approved SOITA membership for 2017-2018.
• Went into executive session to discuss property sale or purchase and employment. No action was taken following the session.
