FL Elementary to get new math series

FORT LORAMIE — Fort Loramie Local Schools students in grades kindergarten through six will have a new math curriculum in the fall.

The board of education voted during its regular meeting, June 19, to purchase the Pearson Envision Math series of textbooks and materials. The series will replace the one that was adopted in 2009.

In other business, the board:

• Approved appropriation adjustments, 2018 temporary appropriations, 2017-2018 activity budgets and school fees.

• Voted to leave the lunch prices for 2017-2018 unchanged from 2016-2017.

• Accepted donations of $146 from the Fort Loramie ACE Committee to support the high school student council and of $200 from the Fort Loramie Service Club to support the purchase of an accelerated reader.

• Voted to purchase a 2017 Chevy Express van with a two-way radio system from Bobby Layman Chevrolet in Columbus at a cost of $27,465.

• Approved the 2017-2018 insurance premiums through Ohio School Plan for property, inland marine, crime, liability, commercial automobile, and umbrella coverage at an annual premium of $35,635 with deductibles ranging from $250 to $2,500. The 2016-2017 premium was $34,552.
• Contracted with Republic Services for waste disposal at a rate of $204.75 per school for the 2017-2018 school year.
• Contracted with the Shelby County Board of Health for nursing services at a rate of $37 per hour for 2017-2018. The rate is unchanged from 2016-2017.
• Hired Carol Kunkler as a cafeteria worker and custodian, Susan A. Kaufman as an in-car and classroom driver’s education instructor at a rate of $16 per hour and $21 per hour, respectively, Paula J. Coder as an in-car driver’s education instructor at a rate of $16 per hour, Corey Britton as assistant athletic director, and Kreg Hollenbacher and Thomas Wisener as girls golf coaches for the 2017-2018 year.
• Accepted the resignation of bus driver Vern Seger.
• Approved student handbooks, membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association, and trips by the sixth grade to Camp Willson, May 10-11 and by the FCCLA to the FCCLA National Leadership Conference, July 21-6.
