Scholarship winners announced

SIDNEY — Four Sidney High School graduates have received scholarships through funds administered by the Community Foundation of Shelby County.

Alexander Hix was awarded the IUTIS Club scholarship of $500. The son of Chip and Eileen Hix, he is studying biological sciences at Wright State University. The IUTIS Club founded the scholarship fund to support further education for a four-year softball program participant.

Noah Calhoun, son of Angela Gold and David Messer, received $2,000 from the Donald E. and M. Jane Kemp Scholarship. He is majoring in aviation maintenance at Sinclair Community College. New in 2015, this scholarship is renewable and recognizes a graduating Sidney High School student for demonstrated community and school service, financial need, academic ability and recommendations.

Sidney High School Alumni Scholarships were given to 2015 graduate Noah Calhoun and alumnus Emily Ocke, daughter of Dawn and Greg Ocke. The fund was established by the SHS Class of 1949, but alumni from several classes have contributed to the scholarship. Each student received a $500 award.

Online applications for these and other scholarships are available through The Community Foundation website at www.commfoun.com after Jan. 1 each year.
