Academia season is underway

SIDNEY — The academia competition season is underway for local high school teams.

After the first match, Sidney, Botkins and Russia all won their respective site competition. Sidney was host to Anna and Fort Loramie. Sidney scored 57 points, while Anna was second with 38 points. Fort Loramie scored 22 points.

At the Houston site, Russia won with 33 points. Lehman finished second with 32 points. Houston scored 14 points.

At the Jackson Center site, Botkins won with 41 points. Jackson Center placed second with 28 points. Fairlawn scored 14 points.

Overall standings have Sidney in first with 57 points. Botkins is in second with 41 points, and Anna is in third with 38 points. Russia is fourth with 33 points, while Lehman has 32 points. Jackson Center has 28 points and Fort Loramie has 22 points. Houston and Fairlawn both have 14 points.

The moderators for the first week were Brad Francis, Bill Courtney and Brett Bickel. Ron Nufio reviewed and edited each of the questions.

After the second match of the season, Sidney, Botkins and Anna posted wins at their site competition.

Russia was host to Anna and Fairlawn. Anna won with 45 points, with Russia finishing second with 35 points. Fairlawn scored 11 points.

Sidney hosted Houston and Jackson Center. Sidney won with 69 points. Houston had 19 points and Jackson Center scored 18 points.

Botkins was host to Lehman and Fort Loramie. Botkins won with 42 points. Lehman scored 37 points and Fort Loramie scored 31 points.

Total point standings finds Sidney in first place with 128 points. Anna is second with 84 points. Just a point behind with 83 is Botkins.

Lehman has 69 points, while Russia has 68 points for the season thus far. Fort Loramie has 53 points; Jackson Center, 46 points; Houston, 33 points; and Fairlawn 25 points.

Three challenges were submitted by member schools. Three points were awarded: two to Sidney and one to Anna.
