Academia season is underway

SIDNEY — The 2017 Academia season is underway. More than 200 students were represented on the rosters of the nine participating school districts. Sidney’s match one total of 59 points was the highest score at the three sites. Sidney, Russia, and Hardin-Houston were the first place teams in week one.

During the second week of competition, the first place finishers at the three sites were Sidney, Anna, and Russia. Sidney scored the most points for the evening at 52. At the end of two rounds Sidney and Russia are in first place with Sidney leading with total points scored. Round 3 will be held on Monday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.

Academia provides students with a chance to connect their classroom efforts to real world activities as they tackle questions across ten categories: Literature, Language, Fine Arts, Sports/Entertainment, Current Events, Science, Math, and General Knowledge. The competition brings together the area’s top scholars and gives them the opportunity to showcase their intellectual skills.

Competition will continue for the next 4 weeks. At the end of the season one school will be named the champion.
