Students win insurance scholarships

SIDNEY — Three area insurance agencies recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to local students.

The agencies affiliated with one another include Ruese Insurance in Sidney, McColloch-Baker Insurance in Piqua, and Ratermann Insurance in Fort Loramie.

Ruese Insurance scholarship recipients include Kyle Szwajkos, a graduate of Christian Academy, Travis Thornton, of Lehman Catholic High School, and Alexis Hall, of Sidney High School. Szwajkos, the son of Brian and Becky Szwajkos, is majoring in psychology at Bowling Green State University., Thornton also attends BGSU and is studying public relations. He is the son of Thomas and Angela Thornton. Hall, daughter of Holly and Dwayne Hall, is a zoology major at the Ohio State University.

McColloch-Baker Insurance recipients include Lyric Wyan, a Piqua High School graduate, and Molly Harshbarger, a graduate of the Upper Valley Career Center. Wyan, the daughter of Melodie Wyan-Casey, attends Pace University, and is studying forensic sciences. Harshbarger, the daughter of Jack and Dee Dee Harshbarger, majors in agriculture education at Wilmington College.

The Ratermann Insurance recipient is Fort Loramie High School graduate Rachel Bollheimer. She is studying business and Spanish at Ohio University. Her parents are Mike and Ann Bollheimer.

The Ruese Insurance Agency Scholarship Fund provides the awards and is administered by the Community Foundation of Shelby County. Selections are made by a committee not affiliated with any of the involved insurance agencies.
