Sidney wins Academia title

SIDNEY — For the eighth consecutive time, Sidney High School has won the Academia trophy for Shelby County.

Anna Local School placed second, while Botkins Local School finished in third place.

Sidney’s team finished the season with 319 points. Anna scored 198 points, while Botkins had 187 points. Rounding out the rest of the competition were Lehman Catholic, 176 points; Russia, 149 points; Fort Loramie, 136 points; Jackson Center, 125 points; Houston, 91 points; and Fairlawn, 69 points.

In the final week of competition, Anna placed first with 36 points at host school Jackson Center. Lehman finished second with 34 points and Jackson Center placed third with 26 points.

At Botkins, Sidney placed first with 66 points. Botkins was second with 36 points and Russia scored 21 points. At Fort Loramie, the host school placed first with 31 points. Houston scored 20 points for second place. Fairlawn scored 13 points.

Through the five weeks of competition, Sidney placed first each week at the site they competed. Anna placed first three times and second twice. Botkins placed first three times and second place twice.

Lehman finished first once and in second place four times. Russia placed first twice and second place once. Fort Loramie finished in first place once and in second place once. Jackson Center placed second three times. Houston placed second twice.

This is the 18th time Sidney has been named champion of the academic competition since the inaugural season in 1975.
