Mayor of Fatima, Portugal, to visit Russells Point

RUSSELLS POINT – The American Society of Ephesus Inc. has announced it is bringing the mayor of Ourem/Fatima, Portugal, to Russells Point, Ohio on Aug. 10-12, during which time the mayor will sign a Sister City Agreement with the mayor of Russells Point.

In May 2017, the mayor of Ourem/Fatima signed a letter of intent to enter into the Sister City Agreement. Later that year, the Russells Point Village Council approved a similar resolution. On Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at 6:30 p.m., a Special Public Meeting will be held at the Russells Point Municipal Building 433 State Route 708, Russells Point. Mayor Luís Miguel Albuquerque, of Ourem/Fatima, and Mayor Robin Reames, of Russells Point, will sign the formal Sister City Agreement in a ceremony held at the Municipal Building. This is the first Sister City Agreement between Ourem/Fatima and any city in the United States. It is the first Sister City Agreement for the Village of Russells Point.

The following day, on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2018, at 6 p.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Shrine on St. Mary’s Point, overlooking Indian Lake at 261 Chase Ave., Russells Point, Ohio 43348, the annual Feast of the Assumption Mass will be celebrated by the Most Reverend Joseph R. Binzer, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Free parking is available at the St. Mary’s of the Woods Catholic Church, 464 Madison Ave., and the Russells Point Municipal Building, Russells Point, Ohio 43348, Attendees may also follow the walking path in the rear yard of the Municipal Building to the shuttles starting at 4:30 p.m. from St. Mary’s of the Woods Catholic Church. Seating limited to 350 persons. No tickets are required and there is no charge. Albuquerque will be recognized at the Mass. It is the first time since the shrine was built in 1964 that an official representative from Fatima has visited the site in Ohio. The shrine was erected by The American Society of Ephesus Inc. in August 1964 to commemorate the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to three children in Fatima, Portugal in 1917.
