Churches plan Community Good Friday Service

SIDNEY — “The Seven Words from the Cross” will be shared during the Community Good Friday Service on Friday, March 25, 2016. The service will be held from noon to 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sidney, 309 E. North St., Sidney.

Seven churches have joined together for the Good Friday service, said the Rev. George Gnade, pastor at First Baptist Church. Gnade will give the welcome to the service.

The first word from the cross is “Father, forgive them …” from Luke 23:34. The devotional will be led by Pastor David Chivington, Sidney First United Methodist Church. Pastor Diana Circelli, First Presbyterian Church of Sidney, will lead the devotional for the second word from the cross, “Truly I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise,” Luke 23:43.

The third word from the cross will be presented by Pastor Rodney Reynolds, Solid Rock Pentecostal. The third word is “Woman, behold your Son …” from John 19:26-27. The fourth word from the cross is “My God? My God? Why has thou forsaken me?” from Matt 27:46. The devotional will be led by Pastor Scott New, First Baptist Church of Sidney.

Pastor Ben Hunt, 153 House Churches Network, will present the fifth word from the cross, “I thirst” from John 19:28. The sixth word from the cross is “It is finished,” from John 19:29-30 and the devotional will be led by Pastor Alan Leach, Connection Point Church of God.

The seventh word from the cross is “Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit!” from Luke 23:46. The devotional will be led by Pastor Randy Locker, Anna United Methodist Church.

Community members are invited to attend the service. There will also be special music and hymns. Those attending the service may come and go as they wish.
