What is true love?

0

After just celebrating Valentine’s Day I was thinking a lot about true love. I found a form of true love when me and my wife of almost 28 years met. As much as the two of us love each other we found something that we love more and that loves us more than we can love each other, “Jesus.” You see in John 3:16 it says For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. God loves us so much He gave us a gift. That gift was his Son Jesus. God offers that gift to everyone in this world. The problem is that people are looking for love in all the wrong places.

Everyone desires to be loved and will go to great lengths to find it. We look for it in relationships and unfortunately, we get disappointed. We were created for relationships. We need to talk to people, touch people or even to just laugh or cry with people. With the mandates that have come with the COVID we have been isolated from experiencing these expressions of love. Some have been in nursing homes and not even being able to see their loved ones for a very long time. We have limited family functions. Some didn’t see family at Thanksgiving or Christmas. We haven’t gotten together for a ball game or a cookout. We have had to have small weddings and limited attendance at other important life events. Though all of these things are needed and treasured we are left with hopelessness when they are taken away or limited. There is a rise in suicide and depression and people are feeling desperate. When we are missing the true love of Jesus our perspective is off and these other relationships become the most important thing and it creates a void and ultimately hopelessness.

You see life is hard and very unfair. We need to have something solid and sure for when life hits. If we have a shallow understanding of love it is going to be hard to get through. Jesus Says in 1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you. Jesus cares for you and doesn’t want you to carry all the hurt and fears on your own. He wants us to cast all of our cares on Him. He says in Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. He promises to give us rest when we come to Him. He says in John 16:3 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. The Love of God is solid and sure. So, I challenge you if you are still looking for true love you will only find it in Jesus Christ. Once you find it you will look at all of those other things with a different perspective. Though things will be hard at times you will not be left without hope because you will be standing solid in the TRUE LOVE OF GOD.
