What is truth?

0

It seems that in our world today, what was wrong in the past is no longer wrong. People will say things like “You can’t legislate morality” or “If it feels right, do it” or “What may be wrong for you may not be wrong for me”. Whether people want to admit it or not, our country, our laws were based on the Bible. Where did we come up with the idea that it was wrong to steal? Where did our law come from that says you can’t murder anyone? We used to have laws against homosexuality, adultery and thing like that, where did they come from? From the Bible, of course.

When Jesus was on trial before Pilate, Pilate asked Jesus a question that I would like to consider today. In John 18:38 Pilate asked “What is truth?” I ask you today, what is the truth? Jesus tells us in John 14:6 “I am the way, the TRUTH, and the life…” Titus 1:2 says “In hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began.” So if Jesus is truth and God cannot lie, then the Bible must be 100% true because it is their words.

So, if the Bible says something,we must believe it and follow it no matter what society says. Fornication, sex outside of marriage, is still wrong. People will say “We are adults and we don’t need a piece of paper to say that we are married”. But the Bible says in Eph. 5:5 that no one who is doing this will inherit the kingdom of God.

Homosexuality is still a sin. Our country may say it’s ok and our courts may justify it, but what it the truth? Rom. 1:26-27 “For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burning in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful…”

Drunkenness in our society is considered acceptable. Many consider alcoholism a sickness, but the Bible calls it a sin. Gal. 5:21 “Envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I told you on time past, that hose who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”

Many other examples can be given and I’m not claiming to be perfect. I’m totally grateful for the blood of Jesus Christ that covers my sins. But as I write this article, I can’t help but think how morally bankrupt our country is. We are now reaping what we have sowed. I saw a recent gallop poll that showed that 77 percent of all Americans claim to be Christians. The problem is that this 77% doesn’t really believe the truth, the Bible. If they did our country would be in a lot better shape. Pray for our country. Pray that God will raise up leaders that will turn our country back to Him. Pray that we will seek the truth and be willing to follow it.
