Mental health first aid training set for July 20

DAYTON — Good Samaritan Hospital Health Ministries Program and Episcopal Retirement Services are sponsoring this event on Thursday, July 20. The event will be held at Miami Valley Hospital South, Education Center Conference Rm, 2359 Miami Valley Drive, Dayton.

Mental Health First Aid is an interactive, 8-hour (Adult) certification course that presents an overview of mental illness and substance use disorders in the U.S. This international evidence-based program introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact and overviews common treatments. Those who take the course will learn a 5-step action plan encompassing the skills, resources and knowledge to help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care. The training is open to all individuals who want to learn more about assisting those experiencing mental health issues.

Continuing Education Nursing: 8 Contact Hours. This offering has been approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing through the OBN Approver Unit at Upper Valley Medical Center OBN-005-92.
