Ministers networking group to meet

DAYTON — The Greater Dayton Area Faith Community Nurse/Health Ministers Network will hold its quarterly meetingon Aug. 17, 2017, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Miami Valley Hospital South, Education Center Conf. Room, 2359 Miami Valley Drive, Dayton, Ohio. The continuing education presentation “A Million Hearts & 3 Buckets” will be led by Public Health –Dayton & Montgomery County Haley Riegel, MPH, CHES, Grant Manager, Communities Preventing Chronic Disease, Office of Health Promotion & Michael Dohn, MD, MSc, Medical Director, Office of the Health Commissioner.

Chronic disease is increasing in the USA. Vascular disease (heart disease and stroke) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality with heart disease responsible for 1 of every 3 deaths in the US. Addressing these conditions is best accomplished through the clinical care and community level prevention interventions. This presentation will identify evidence-based strategies in the CDC’s 2018 Initiative to decrease the health effects of cardiac disease and diabetes, articulate the goals of the Million Hearts Campaign, identify several local community resources related to chronic diseases and outline a new approach to managing chronic diseases using the “3 Buckets Technique.”
