Remembering Daniel Yoder

0

Tragically, The Amish Cook, Gloria Yoder, lost her beloved husband, Daniel, on April 4 in a tragic accident. They shared a love story for the ages and his friends, family and loved ones are grieving his passing.

Daniel was only 31-years-old. He died in a logging accident on Monday, April 4. Every attempt was made to save his life. He was flown by medical helicopter from southern Illinois to Evansville, Indiana, but, in the end, there was nothing they could do to save him.

To donate to the GoFundMe account set up by Gloria’s family to help her raise her six children in the years ahead and pay off medical bills from Daniel’s care, please click here.

In Daniel’s memory, this week’s column is from November 2014 and is the first of many he would write while Gloria took a break to care for family or herself.

Hi to all of you!

Guess what, our little bundle has arrived!

Hurray, it is a boy! Austin Daniel was born on Oct. 30, filling our hearts with joy. He weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces and is 18.5 inches long.

He was born at home and, yes, everything turned out fine. Who but God could design something as wonderful as a newborn baby?

You guessed it, our 3-year-old daughter Julia is totally delighted to be a big sister to a baby brother. She was very excited to show Austin her dolls and toys.

It is very exciting to be a new Daddy to a little son. I can hardly wait for him to be old enough to go make furniture with me. Our shop is a two-man operation as of now. So it will be easy to take him to work with me at a young age. He will probably end up putting me to work and have me take care of him! Ha!

I really enjoy making furniture especially when taking a rough piece of lumber and making something very beautiful. We make distressed and log furniture.

I really enjoyed being home more the last week, taking care of my family. Austin is a week old now and seems to be a very content baby. We really enjoy watching his expressions. He can make the cutest faces. Julia was delighted to have him giggle when she tickled his cheek. You will have an update next week on how Austin Daniel is doing.

Today I will share a recipe for for next time I would like to make a special treat for my wife. I make it for Gloria’s birthday every year. She is delighted every time. Gloria’s birthday is coming up next week which is Nov. 12, so I will be making it again soon.
