Solve hunger by feeding people

0

September is Hunger Action Month, when Feeding America and member food banks ask everyone in America to take action to fight hunger in their community, all month long. Hunger Action Month is your opportunity to join a movement that has a real and lasting impact on our effort to feed more Americans than ever before. Together, we can solve hunger.

Can we really solve hunger?

The opening paragraph can be found on most websites for area food banks and national Feeding America sites. The goals are honest, and the concern is true. But is the ultimate objective attainable?

Hunger Action Month asks us to do the following:

• Donate your status and share your local hunger statistics on Facebook and Twitter.

• Like and follow Feeding America and your local food bank on social media.

• Pledge your support for the more than one in five kids in the United States who face hunger by signing Feeding America’s Feeding a Strong Future pledge.

• Take a “Spoon Selfie” for hunger to engage the public and help raise awareness for Americans struggling with hunger.

Ugh! Typical liberalism … symbolism over substance!

Here’s a suggestion … how about feeding the hungry!

These websites also ask us to “Imagine a World Without Hunger.” Well we can imagine, I guess. We can imagine we won the lottery. We can imagine marrying a supermodel. We can imagine holding hands and singing “We Are the World” … wait … we did do that.

It pains me to watch and listen to those who think taking a “Spoon Selfie” (affectionately called “Spoontember) will really make a dent in hunger. (It’s real, sometimes you can’t make this stuff up!)

Ask yourself if you have ever been hungry?

Have you EVER really been hungry?

I’m not talking about fasting for church, or waking up hung over, or not having what you want in the fridge to eat. I’m talking about NOT HAVING ANYTHING TO EAT for at least a day, or two, or longer.

With all due respect to Earl Pitts … WAKE UP AMERICA!

Stop all this madness — simply find out who in your neighborhood needs help … and help them.

Hunger is not going to be solved by taking of picture of yourself with a spoon on your fat face, just like other problems will not be solved by dumping ice water over your head.

Take real action — feed the poor.

Here’s seeing you, in Ohio Country!
