Freedom makes the U.S. great

What makes this country great? Freedom! We have freedom of choice, freedom of speech, and freedom to vote for whoever we want. We have the power to choose whatever we want to do. Freedom isn’t free and many have paid the price for us to enjoy these liberties. But who is the creator of the idea of freedom? I believe God created freedom and He gave us a free will to choose, as stated in 2 Corinthians 3:17, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” God gives us the freedom to choose a spirit of fear or a spirit of faith. God wants us to be all that we can be, not only physically in the land of the free and home of the brave, but spiritually too.

In Luke 6:38 Jesus says, “The same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” So where do we measure from? What are our points of reference? I believe God is saying we often measure our self-worth by measuring ourselves against other humans. Let’s say I want to be the quickest runner in the world, I would study everything I could on the fastest runner in the world. This makes sense and it’s wise to spend time with those who are making great strides in their field of expertise. But if I hold my end measurement at the fastest runner in the world, then I will top out there. If we measure life on human terms, we will limit our hopes and dreams. If we measure ourselves by what God says, which is that we are MORE than conquerors and all things are possible to us that believe, then our hopes and dreams are limitless (Romans 8:37).

In Hebrews 11:11, Sarah judged (measured) God faithful, because He had promised her a child. The influence of God was stronger than the influence of the world, which said that she was too old to have a child. We have to be like Sarah who believed in God’s promise despite the whole world telling her that her dreams weren’t possible. I believe if we measure our life by God’s standards the possibilities can be limitless, just like Sarah’s. It says in Ephesians 3:20 “Now to God who is able to do exceedingly more than all we ask or think, according to the power that is at work within us, to Him be the glory!” It’s good to believe in yourself, but you will be limited unless you believe in God who has no limits. I believe we think it’s easier to measure the power of success off of people because we can see someone’s success right in front of us, but we can’t see their heart.

I believe if we set out to study and spend time with the creator of the heavens and earth through prayer and reading the Holy Bible, we will see our true measurement and worth in life. We might feel free from somethings, but I believe only a relationship with Jesus Christ will set us free of all things. What is so awesome is that God gave us freedom to believe in whatever we want. God gives us the perfect law of liberty to look into and if we continue in it, and continue to be doers of the work, we will be blessed in all that we do (James 1:25).
