Have you ever felt like you’re a product of the circumstances around you? Have you felt like whatever happens, happens and that things are out of your control? What if I told you life is about choices, and your choices lead you to the circumstances you’re in. In John 17:16, Jesus says to His disciples, “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.” This passage says that they (Christians) are not subject to this world. The same world that says we are here by a random chance of events happening at the right time.
Do you think you’re here by chance? I don’t think so. I believe God made life by design and He has a plan for each and every one of us. We’re not here because of a big bang of circumstances. I don’t know about you, but every big bang I’ve seen always ends in chaos. Everything is broken, there are pieces lying everywhere, and any hopes of putting things back together are shattered. Instead, life is like a gasoline motor. The motor has explosions constantly going on when it’s running, but the chaos of the explosions are harnessed inside the motor that was built by a designer.
When I think about life and how good things come about, there always seems to be an underlying purpose and intentional design behind it. For example, some scientist say that a human body has more atoms in it than the amount of atoms in all the grains of sands found on all of the earth’s beaches. If that doesn’t shake your thinking, they also say that if you add the atoms from all the stars with the atoms from all the beaches, the human body will still have more atoms than both put together. This shows that the human body is an amazingly complex design!
The amount of atoms in the body makes me think of these scriptures, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” Genesis 1:27, and “God counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name” Psalm 147:4, and finally “How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!” Psalm 139:17-18. Do these scriptures sound like there’s an intentional design behind life? Yes, I think so. It’s not by sheer circumstance that we are on this planet.
Jesus spoke to His disciples saying, “All authority (power) has been given to Me in heaven and on earth” Matthew 28:18. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” 2 Timothy 1:7. It’s up to us to believe that he has all the authority, and that we do not have to live by fear! We weren’t meant to be led by circumstances, but to be children of God living life by His design!
