To the editor:

Recently, there has been raucous opposition against the local police forces of the United States. Almost daily, voices are heard on the news condemning the actions of law enforcement, whether it is justified or not. This could be very disheartening to all of our men and women in uniform. The good news is that “the news” is usually biased. The majority of Americans greatly appreciate the work our police officers, EMTs, and first responders do. We understand that the local law enforcement is not bent on our subjugation, but they are our friends and neighbors doing their best to keep our communities safe.

Every day they put their lives on the line to ensure that law-abiding citizens are secure from those who disregard law and order. Many of our firefighters, EMTs and first responders work long shifts, ready to brave any obstacle to save lives. These are the true heroes of America. Let each of us show a word of thanks and support to our law enforcement and first responders. Tie a blue ribbon around the mailbox or a tree, put a blue light in the window, or give a simple handshake to those in uniform to let them know they are appreciated.
