Who would steal flowers from a grave?

To the editor:

What type of a person would steal flowers from a grave at Graceland Cemetery? This was Memorial Day weekend, and everyone was honoring their dead with flowers. Could it be someone with no money to buy their own? Was it a prank? Or was it someone who needed “a fix”?

My family had chosen a vining geranium with huge purple blooms, which looked beautiful on the grave where John an our some Mike are remembered. We put it there Saturday about 10:30 a.m. On Sunday at about 3 p.m., we stopped to water the flowers if necessary and to check for damage due to Saturday’s heavy rainfall.

It was difficult to believe our eyes! Those beautiful flowers were gone! Left there was the upside down pot on which it had been sitting. How sad it looked!

Does this person know what anxiety it caused? Does this person have no respect for the veteran who served in WWII and the Korean War, helping make our county free for all, including the likes of him/her? What has this person done to earn that kind of honor?

Chances are that we will never get answers to our questions. We can only hope this person learns to “grow up” and become a believer in the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” Or perhaps we can wish for: “What goes around, comes around.” Hummm ….
