Many helped make event a success

To the editor:

It’s so hard to believe that months of planning and preparation for the Ninth Annual Turkey Trot Race to End Hunger are past, and that the event was already last week! The planning committee for this event would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the individuals, businesses and schools that helped make the event such a huge success. Because of all of the support that we received this year, we were able to collect 6,200 pounds of food. One school is still collecting food, so our hope is to top last year’s total of 8,000 pounds. These donations, along with all of the monetary donations, will be used to stock the emergency food pantry at the Alpha Community Center and Holy Angels Soup Kitchen. Many families who live in our community will receive both help and hope, because of the generosity of so many. We give thanks for the continued support of our community and the people who live and work here.

Like any other big event, it takes a while to clean things up and reorganize for another year. Once this is done, we will enjoy a time of rest before beginning to plan and prepare for next year’s 10th Annual Turkey Trot Race to End Hunger. It is our hope that you, your family, your school, your church, your place of business will consider taking part in order to stamp out hunger in our community! See you all next year, on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016!
