Tax-Aide seeks volunteer tax preparers

To the editor:

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, which provides free tax preparation for senior citizens in Sidney, at the Sidney/Shelby County Senior Center and Amos Memorial Public Library, is gearing up for what looks to be an especially busy tax season next year. This year most of the 250+ free tax preparation locations in Ohio had to stop scheduling appointments in early March. Next year, we anticipate demand will be even greater because of the new tax law.

Except for 11 paid staffers in Washington, D.C., Tax-Aide is entirely a volunteer operation. In Champaign, Clark, Darke, Miami, Shelby counties, 54 volunteers filed 4,003 federal tax returns in 2018, primarily for senior citizens, saving them an estimated $800,000 in tax preparation fees. That money stayed in the community and was used for everything from necessary prescriptions to heating bills.

If you have any questions or would like more details about volunteering please contact Tax Aide Administrative Coordinator Tom Beattie at 937-778-0339 or [email protected] or go to the Ohio Tax-Aide website — www.ohiotaxaide.org.

Sincerely,

Tom Beattie

Administrative Coordinator
