To the editor:

Sidney City Schools serve nearly 3,500 students from Sidney, Port Jefferson and Maplewood. They offer a wide range of programs, activities, and services that allow them to achieve success in the classroom, on stage, at the game, and in the community. The Shelby County Democratic Party proudly supports public education, and especially supports the work of the teachers, staff, and students at Sidney City Schools.

The Shelby County Democratic Party strongly endorses the renewal of the 9.23 mill emergency property tax levy on the ballot on Nov. 6. This is a renewal of a levy originally passed in November 2009 and renewed in May 2014.

Because it is a renewal there will be no increase in taxes. It will continue to provide funds that have been crucial to the Sidney City Schools and will ensure that they can continue to provide programs, activities, and services at current levels.
