Help someone in need: Donate blood

To the Editor:

Feeling good? Want to feel better? Plan to donate your precious blood Tuesday, Jan. 17, at the Sidney American Legion, 1265 N. Fourth Ave. between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. There is definitely joy in helping out someone in need of life saving blood.

The “GIVE BLOOD GIVE LOVE” blood drive is sponsored by Wilson Health and the Sidney Rotary Club. Since January is National Blood Donor Awareness Month, a special long sleeve hoodie T-shirt is being provided to all donors.

Donors also can enjoy barbecue pork sandwiches, snacks, juice, water and coffee served in the canteen.

Blood donation requirements: Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name. Past CBC donors are also asked to bring their CBC donor ID card. Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years old with parental consent: form available at www.givingblood.org or at the Dayton CBC and mobile blood drive locations), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds (you may have to weigh more depending on your height), and be in good physical health. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically. Individuals with eligibility questions can email [email protected] or call 937-461-3220. Make an appointment at www.DonorTime.com.

Do everyone a favor by recruiting friends, neighbors, relatives and co-workers to donate. Walk-ins are welcome Tuesday, but pre-registering makes more efficient use of Community Blood Center staff and thus, beneficial to all donors.

Remember, someone you know has used blood. They may have had blood transfers due to an accident, cancer or other health challenge. Someday you may need blood. Please help ensure an adequate blood supply for all.

Thank you
