To the editor:

How did America become a nation of victims? Have the schools and liberal elites taught us that we all must be victims of one kind or another? Americans are made of sterner stuff than that. When I was a kid — now age 72 — they taught us to retort to someone who said something hurtful, expecially if it was inteded to be so, with “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” It was armor used to deflect hurtful things thrown at you. You repeated the phrase until your protagonist ceased their diatribe. At my age, my physical skin is thin, but my emotional skin is as tough as an old boot heel.
