To the editor:

As chairperson for the Sidney Great Strides fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, I would like to express my appreciation to the team leaders and to all the families and friends who participated in the May 15 event at Tawawa Park. Together our teams raised over $31,000 that will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s research and advancement towards a cure for cystic fibrosis. Teams participating included: Benjamin’s Buddies, Carter’s Crusaders, Team Cody, The Force, Katie’s Krew, Megan & Vincent, Sidney Walgreens, Trent’s Live Savors and Wyatt’s Warriors. Team fundraising continues through the end of the year and anyone wishing to contribute to a team may still do so online at http://greatstrides.cff.org.

We are thankful and blessed to live in such a generous community, and would also like to thank the following local businesses and organizations for contributing their services or in-kind donations, which added to the enjoyment of the event participants: Shelby County Sheriff Department Color Guard; Sidney High School Chamber Choir Alumni; Shelby County Sheriff Deputy Brian Strunk, and mascot Darrin the Lion; Sidney Police Officer Mike McRill, and mascot Safety Pup; Photographers Sheryl Ditmer, John Hemp, Elisha Korn and Jeff Hewitt; Sidney Daily News; TAM 105.5; Walgreens – Sidney; Ear Candy; Dannon Co – Minster; Sidney Foodtown; Meijer – Troy; Advance America – Sidney; Emerson Climate Control –Sidney; Bunny’s Pharmacy; Sidney First United Methodist Church; Northwood Elementary School; and Fairlawn Local Schools.

The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide all people with the disease the opportunity to lead full, productive lives by funding research and drug development, promoting individualized treatment and ensuring access to high-quality, specialized care. We are so proud of our team VIPs and their daily efforts to overcome cystic fibrosis. As we continue with faith and hope for a cure for this disease, we are encouraged to live in such a generous community which helps support and promote awareness and to make CF stand for “Cure Found” in the near future! Together we are making a difference!

Thank you again to everyone who helped make this a great success!
