To the editor:

Hello to all Sidney Yellow Jackets,

As we have wrapped up this school year, we wanted to share with you several events that have occurred at Sidney High School.

During this busy time frame our students and staff have completed state testing. A big challenge to complete and a big sigh of relief to be done.

Our staff and students have completed a job fair that consisted of 45 businesses, our military and our law enforcement agencies, several colleges, and various vendors. Students in grades 9-12 participated in applying for summer or full time jobs. Also, we had our work study banquet that involved our local businesses and students who work during the school year. We appreciate the support of our local businesses and their efforts to employ our students.

Our staff and students in the music department completed their spring and year end concerts in orchestra, choir, band and jazz band. Also the marching band had a trip to Disney World in Florida.

Our staff and students in the agricultural/vocational department completed the third annual FFA (Future Farmers of America) banquet. Our numbers/membership continues to increase in these classes.

In our foreign language department we had nine students from Germany visit SHS and those students stayed with host families for several weeks. In turn, we will have three students from SHS visit Germany this summer.

Our junior class hosted our annual Prom at the end of April and the dance took place at the IUE hall. The theme of “Electric Forest” was displayed throughout the hall during this festive evening.

Our junior and senior students in CIS (Computer Information Systems) with Mr. J. Spangler and Ms. T. Adami competed in BPA contests at the local, state and national levels with various categories. We had several students place at each level—quite an accomplishment!!!

Many of our students were recognized during our academic awards (grade point average and school requirements) with honors, high honors and various scholarships. Congratulations to those students on their efforts.

We had 23 students earn perfect attendance this year with no absences and no tardies. This is a major accomplishment for these students.

Finally, we saw the graduation for 234 senior students. Our graduation ceremony for SHS was on Saturday, May 21 at 10 am. We wish our seniors the best and we appreciate their accomplishments.

UVCC students had their graduation ceremony with UVCC on May 26. Congratulations to all!

In closing, we want to say THANK YOU to all of our staff, our students, our parents, and to our community for your efforts and for your support this school year. Thank you for supporting our students.

Thank you and Go Jackets,

Doug Zimmer, Assistant Principal, Jason Jeremiah McLain, Assistant Principal, and Mitch Hoying, Athletic Director
