To the editor:

A few weeks ago FISH Thrift Shop/Food Pantry put out a public request for donations of steel-toed shoes. That request was met with an unbelievable response. The same day it appeared in our local paper, a wonderful gentleman came in with a cash donation that allowed us to purchase new shoes. We also received another cash donation by mail. People started bringing in their gently used shoes. What a fantastic result we had to our plea. One mother sat in my office with tears when we were able to fit her with a pair of shoes as she said, “I can now feed my two daughters since I am able to get these shoes because I couldn’t afford them on my own.”

We never know how one little act of kindness can have such an impact of another person’s life. We can use more shoes as they are going out the door almost as quickly as they come in.

Last month a lovely couple donated some items to us, which included a beautiful stained-glass floor lamp. The lady suggested we may want to raffle it off. It was the biggest raffle we have ever had. Everyone wanted to win that lamp. The lucky winner was Kelly Mays. I wish I had gotten the couple’s names so I could thank them personally but I hope they see this and know how much their donation helped FISH!

We are also looking for more volunteers. FISH has grown so much since we moved to our present location five years ago. We have a wonderful group of people that make up our “FISH Family.” You may like to join us.
