Vet grateful for trip to DC

To the editor:

My name is Ralph Granger, a Navy vetran who served during the Korean campaign years at Guantanamo, Cuba. I was privileged, recently (Sept. 18-20), to be one of the veterans to go on the Shelby County (OH) Veterans to DC trip.

The importance of this letter is to express my sincere gratitude and heartfelt thanks to Mike Bennett and his fantastic team of sponsors, volunteers, caregivers, donors, etc., who put many hours into planning and pulling off one of the most memorable trips I — and I am sure the other veterans — will never forget. Especially for me, since I was one of the four given the honor of being chosen to participate in the ceremony of presenting the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns. This I am proud of and will never forget.

I must thank the sponsors from the area who donated the money for us veterans to be able to make the trip at no cost to the veteran. Also, the merchants and organizations, who donated the refreshments, snacks, lunches and dinners at all of the rest stops and layovers, need special thanks, along with the volunteers who served.

Thanks Sidney Shelby County!!

Ralph Granger
