Three Shelby County volleyball players have been named to the All-Ohio first team in voting by the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association, and six county players in all received recognition.
All three first-teamers are just juniors in Lehman’s Sidney Chapman, Fort Loramie’s Caleigh Barhorst, and Jackson Center’s Cassie Meyer.
Two New Bremen girls were named to the second team in senior Devon Heitkamp and sophomore Paige Jones.
Jackson Center senior Pauline Meyer was named to the third team.
Chapman led the Lady Cavaliers to the Northwest Central Conference championship, then to sectional and district titles as well. She finished the season with 419 kills, 274 digs and 49 aces.
Barhorst led the Lady Redskins to a final 19-9 mark and sectional and district championships. They made to the regional finals before losing.
She was a first-team All-County selection and had 383 kills, 206 digs and 54 ace serves this season. She was a key player in Loramie’s run to the state championship her sophomore season.
Cassie Meyer was the Player of the Year in the Shelby County League, and led the Lady Tigers to an 11-1 league mark and conference, sectional, district and regional championships. They will play in the state tournament starting Friday. She currently has 376 kills, 275 digs and 77 aces.
New Bremen’s Heitkamp and Jones led the Lady Cardinals to the No. 1 seed for the sectional tournament and a 16-9 overall record this season.
Jones had 375 kills and Heitkamp 269. Jones also had 51 aces, 57 total blocks and 280 digs. Heitkamp had 266 digs, 61 total blocks and 32 aces.
Jackson Center’s Pauline Meyer has 181 kills, second on the team, and 234 digs this season. She has served 48 aces.
More county/area players were named to the Honorable Mention list, including senior Erin Metz of Jackson Center and senior Madeline Smith of Lehman; seniors Makenzie Albers and Tyla Bergman of Marion Local, and senior Madison Lammers of New Knoxville.
