DE GRAFF — Riverside scored two runs in each the sixth and seventh innings to rally and earn a win in a Division IV sectional opener on Monday.

Quinn Stobbe struck out to start the seventh but was able to reach after a dropped third strikeout. After Harley Asbury struck out, Justin Ritzma reached on a ground ball to second base and Stobbe scored from first.

Dylon Carnes then hit a ground out to the pitcher that moved Ritma to second. Trey Lane followed with a single to left field to score Ritzma and give the Pirates the win.

Riverside had 11 hits and six errors while Fairlawn had six hits and three errors.

Lane was 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs and two runs while Levi Godwin was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and one run. Godwin and Asbury each had a double while Greg Bryant had a triple.

Lane picked up the win. He pitched two innings and gave up two hits with two strikeouts. Aaron Kean started for Riverside and allowed nine unearned runs on four hits with six strikeouts.

Jackson Jones was 2 for 2 for Fairlawn with three runs and two walks. Doug Wright was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and one run.

Riverside advances to face Russia in a Division IV sectional semifinal on Wednesday in Russia.

Jackson Center 5, Covington 1

The Tigers scored two runs in each the first and second innings to take control of a Division IV sectional opener early on Monday in Jackson Center.

Jackson Center had nine hits and one error while Covington had four hits and two errors.

Jacob Francis was 2 for 4 (including a double) with one run for the Tigers while Trent Platfoot was 2 for 4 with one run. Aidan Reichert was 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs.

Francis earned the win on the mound for Jackson Center. He pitched three innings and didn’t allow a hit and had six strikeouts.

The Tigers advance to face Lehman Catholic in a second-round game on Wednesday in Sidney.

Preble Shawnee 5, Houston 1

Shawnee scored three runs in the fifth inning to pull away from Houston on Monday in a Division III sectional opener in Camden.

Houston and Shawnee each had seven hits and no errors. The Wildcats tied the game 1-1 in the third, but Shawnee scored one in the fourth to go ahead before pulling away in the fifth.

Brennan Arnold was 2 for 3 for Houston with 1 RBI while John Leist was 2 for 3. Howie Ludwig scored Houston’s run.

Ludwig was charged with the loss. He allowed five earned runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings and had six strikeouts.

Ansonia 7, Botkins 5

The Trojans tried to rally late in a Division IV sectional opener on Monday in Botkins but couldn’t.

Ansonia led 5-1 after three innings and pushed its lead to 7-2 through 4 1/2. Botkins scored two in the fifth and one in the sixth but didn’t get a runner past second in the seventh.

Ansonia had 12 hits and three errors while Botkins had nine hits and three errors.

Tristen Burns was 3 for 4 for Botkins with 1 RBI and 2 runs. Parker Geis was 1 for 4 with 2 RBIs and one run.

Geis was charged with the loss for the Trojans. He pitched two innings and allowed four earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

Regular season

Northmont 10, Sidney 9

Sidney scored six runs in the top of the seventh in a road nonconference game at Northmont on Monday, but the Thunderbolts scored two in the bottom half of the inning to rally and earn a win.

Northmont had 12 hits and no errors while Sidney had 12 hits and three errors.

Kyle Noble was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and two runs for the Yellow Jackets. AJ Brussell was 2 for 2 and Caleb Harris was 2 for 4 with two runs. Lathan Jones hit a two-run double while Noble and Dylan Smith also hit a double.

Ryan Heins picked up the loss for Sidney. He allowed two runs in the seventh.

Anna 5, Kenton Ridge 4

Anna scored three runs in the fourth inning to battle back from an early deficit and held on for a home nonconference win.

The Rockets had six hits and five errors while Kenton Ridge had four hits and four errors.

Carter Elliott was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and one run for Anna. Elliott had a double, as did Zach White and Caleb Kauffman.

Noah Iller picked up the win for Anna. He pitched six innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts.

Fort Loramie 7, Indian Lake 1

The Redskins pulled away early on Monday for a nonconference win in Fort Loramie.

Loramie got three runs in the first inning on two errors by Indian Lake along with a hit by Austin Siegel and an RBI single to right field by Mason Kemper.

The Redskins added to the lead in the second with an RBI-double from Dylan Albers after a hit by Ethan Pleiman.

Fort Loramie used four pitchers in the game, with Mason Kemper getting the win. Fort Loramie would tack on three more runs along the way to close out the win.

Siegel was 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI. Ben Barhorst was 2 for 3.

Russia 15, Piqua 1

The Raiders scored 10 runs in the fourth inning to run away to a nonconference win over Piqua on Monday in Russia.

Russia had 11 hits and one error while Piqua had four hits and one error.

Will Sherman was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs for Russia while Hunter Cohee was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and two runs. Evan Monnier was 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs and two runs while Jack Dapore was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and two runs. Cohee had two doubles while Dapore had one. Dapore also had a triple.

Evan Monnier picked up the win on the mound. He pitched four innings and allowed one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts.

Minster 6, Celina 2

Minster earned a nonconference road win on Monday.

Minster had eight hits and one error while Celina had 11 hits and two errors. Isaac Schmiesing was 2 for 4 with one run while Jack Heitbrink was 2 for 2 with 1 RBI and one run. Jack Olberding and Austin Shinabery each had a double for the Wildcats.

Noah Enneking picked up the win for Minster. He pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Heitbrink pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief and had seven strikeouts.

New Bremen 12, Lima Perry 10

The Cardinals scored six runs in the fifth inning to pull away from Perry to a nonconference win on Monday in New Bremen.

New Bremen had eight hits and five errors while Perry had eight hits and four errors.

Justin Tenkman was 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs and two runs for New Bremen. Ryan Bertke was 2 for 4 (including a double) with 3 RBIs and one run while Aaron Vonderhaar was 2 for 3 with 1 RBI and one run.

Ben Kuck picked up the win for the Cardinals. He pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed one earned run on two hits with four strikeouts.

Delphos Jefferson 20, New Knoxville 10

Jefferson jumped out to an 11-2 early lead and cruised form there to a big nonconference win on Monday.

Jefferson had 21 hits and no errors while New Knoxville had 10 hits and two errors.

Jonah Lageman was 3 for 3 for New Knoxville with 2 RBIs and one run while Jack Bartholomew was 3 for 3 with two runs. Ben Lammers was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs and two runs.

Patrick Covert picked up the loss for the Rangers. He allowed nine earned runs on nine hits in 2 1/3 innings with one strikeout.

Softball

Wayne 10, Sidney 0

Wayne scored three runs in the sixth to earn a run-rule win in a Division I sectional opener on Monday in Huber Heights.

Wayne had seven hits and two errors while Sidney had four hits and two errors.

Morgan Carey was 2 for 3 for Sidney. Lauren Barker picked up the loss in the circle. She allowed six earned runs on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings with five strikeouts.

Springfield Northeastern 8, Anna 4

Northeastern scored six runs in the second and third innings to take control of a Division III sectional opener on Monday in Anna.

The Jets had 10 hits and three errors while Anna had seven hits and four errors.

Olivia Place was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs for Anna while Elaina Crosson was 2 for 4. Place and Crosson each had a double.

Crosson picked up the loss in the circle. She pitched two innings and allowed five earned runs on six hits with one strikeout.

Arcanum 8, Versailles 0

Arcanum shut out Versailles 8-0 in a Division III sectional opener on Monday in Arcanum.

Arcanum took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning, then added six runs in the fourth and one in the sixth while holding Versailles scoreless.

Arcanum had 10 hits and no errors in the game while Versailles had three hits and four errors.

Caitlin McEldowney was 2 for 3 for Versailles with two doubles. Lauren Monnin was 1 for 3. Kate Stammen walked once.

Cori Lawrence pitched three innings for Versailles and gave up four earned runs and one unearned run on five hits and one walk. Monnin pitched three innings and surrendered two earned runs and one unearned run on five hits, three walks, one hit batter and one strikeout.

Regular season

Houston 12, Jackson Center 2

The Wildcats picked up a run-rule Shelby County Athletic League win on Monday.

Emilee Foster had four hits for Houston while Rebekah New and Allisen Foster each had three hits. Sarah Monnier and Brooklyn Felver each had two hits. New, Monnier, Felver and Jess Monnier each had a double. The Wildcats had 17 hits.

Connor Pipke and Riley Jackson each had two hits for Jackson Center. Pipke had a home run, Bryanna Davis had a triple and Jackson had a double.

Russia 15, Fairlawn 0

The Raiders picked up a run-rule SCAL win over Fairlawn on Monday in Sidney.

Russia had 18 hits and one error while Fairlawn had one hit and five errors.

Shea Borchers was 3 for 3 with 5 RBIs for Russia while Claudia Counts was 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs and three runs. Kylee Sherman was 3 for 3 with 1 RBI and three runs and Lauren Monnin was 2 for 4 with 1 RBI and two runs.

Counts had two doubles while Grace Saunders, Borchers and Monnin each had one. Borchers had a triple and Lexi Monnin hit a home run.

Saunders picked up the win for Russia. She had 10 strikeouts in five innings.

Skylar Jones picked up the loss for Fairlawn. Renee Gent had the Jets’ hit.

Wapakoneta 5, Minster 3

The Redskins scored four runs in the sixth to earn a nonconference win on Monday in Minster.

Minster had nine hits and five errors while Wapakoneta had seven hits and one error.

Danielle Barhorst was 2 for 4 for Minster with one run. Alice Schmiesing was 2 for 3 and Lindsey Albers was 2 for 3. Schmiesing hit a double.

Jenna Poeppelman picked up the loss for Minster. She pitched seven innings and didn’t allow an earned run. She had seven strikeouts.
