Kim Metz, coach of the state champion Jackson Center Lady Tigers, and her standout junior Cassie Meyer took the top honors in Division 4 in the All-District 9 volleyball voting, announced this week.
Metz was named the Division 4 Coach of the Year after leading her team to a final 29-1 record and the D-4 state title, along with the County championship.
Meyer, who is still only a junior, added District 9 Player of the Year honors to her County Player of the Year recognition. She put an exclamation point on an outstanding season over the weekend by pounding out 48 kills in the two matches at state. Her 21 kills in the championship match set a new state tournament record for a three-set match, and behind her play, Jackson Center set a new state tournament record for a three-set match with a .398 hitting percentage.
She was joined on the All-District 9 first team by her sister, senior Pauline Meyer, and senior Erin Metz.
Also named to the first team were Fort Loramie junior Caleigh Barhorst, Lehman junior Sidney Chapman, Lehman senior Madeline Smith, Fort Loramie junior Taylor Ernst and Russia senior Cassie Pleiman.
Second-team selections include Riverside sophomore Marissa Davis, Fort Loramie senior Maddi Brandewie, Loramie junior Maeve Hilgefort, Houston senior Jenna Mounts, Lehman junior Madison Hussey, Botkins senior Sami Vehorn, and Jackson Center senior Peyton Esser.
Division 3
Anna head coach Kelli Zumberger was named the Division 3 Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Rockets to a 21-win season (21-6) and a district championship.
She had two of her players named to the first team in seniors Sarah Bettinger and setter Elizabeth Landis, and another to the second team in junior Krista Gehret.
Versailles sophomore Danielle Winner was a first-team pick and teammate Kristin Langston, a senior, was named to the second team.
Division 1
Sidney had two players named to the second team in Division 1.
They included senior Adriena Cook and junior Amanda Thomas.
