Monday roundup: Fort Loramie earns road win at Kenton Ridge

SPRINGFIELD — Fort Loramie tuned- up for its sectional final with a 6-3 nonconference win at Kenton Ridge on Monday.

The Redskins, which will face Triad in a Division IV sectional final on Wednesday at Sidney, jumped out to a 3-0 lead against Kenton Ridge. The Cougars are the No. 1 seed in the Springfield Division II sectional and are playing in a sectional final on Thursday.

Fort Loramie (21-6) took its big early lead in the first. Carter Mescher led the game off with a hit. After he stole second and stole third, he scored on a double by Jared Middendorf. Loramie would go on to score two more runs in the inning on a walk and two errors.

The Redskins added another run in the second. Mescher started it off with a hit, then Dylan Albers was hit by the next pitch. After a balk moved runners to second and third, CJ Billing hit a sacrifice fly to score Mescher.

The Cougars stayed on Loramie’s heels, however, and made it 4-3 in the fourth.

But Loramie answered back with another run on a double by Mescher, his third hit of the game, and then a double by Billing. In the sixth inning, Jared Middendorf hit a triple to deep right center and Austin Siegel brought him in on a sacrifice fly to left.

Loramie’s pitchers held Kenton Ridge scoreless over the last three innings to seal the win. Mason Kemper went the first 3 1/3 innings to get the win.

Anna 21, Brookville 9

The Rockets (17-7) earned a run-rule win over Brookville on Monday in a nonconference game.

Anna, which plays Dayton Christian in a Division III sectional final on Wednesday at New Carlisle Tecumseh, blew Monday’s game open with 15 runs in the last three innings.

Anna had 12 hits and three errors while Brookville had seven hits and nine errors.

Zach White was 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs and four runs for Anna, Seth Stiefel was 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs and two runs and Carter Elliott was 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs. Aidan Endsley, White and Elliott hit doubles while Caleb Kauffman hit a home run. Kaufman was 1 for 2 with two walks and 6 RBIs.

Cole Maurer picked up the win for the Rockets. He pitched three innings and didn’t allow an earned run. He had four strikeouts.

Versailles 5, Oakwood 4

Versailles (17-5) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh on Monday to defeat Oakwood in a nonconference game.

Oakwood scored the game’s first four runs in the top half of the second inning. Versailles cut its deficit to 4-2 in the fifth inning, then scored three runs in the seventh for the walk-off win.

Kyle Pothast drove in Cole Niekamp with an RBI-single to tie the game then Noah Grisez had a walk-off hit that scored Zach Griesdorn for the game-winning run.

Versailles had seven hits and one error while Oakwood had six hits and one error.

Niekamp was 2 for 3 with a walk, an RBI and a run. Grisez was 1 for 2 with two walks, two stolen bases, an RBI and a run. Griesdorn was 1 for 4 with a double, a stolen base and a run. Pothast was 1 for 4 with an RBI.

Garrett Toops pitched the complete game, allowing two earned runs and two unearned runs on six hits, one walk, one hit batter and five strikeouts.

The Tigers will face Arcanum in a Division III sectional final on Wednesday at Northmont.

Softball

New Bremen 12, Lima Senior 2

The Cardinals (11-10) tuned up for a Division IV sectional final against Minster with a run-rule win over Lima Senior on Monday.

New Bremen had 16 hits and one error while Lima Senior had four hits and one error.

Marissa Topp was 2 for 2 with 4 RBIs and one run, Taylor Paul was 2 for 2 with two runs, Erin Smith was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and two runs and Abbi Thieman was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Erin Smith hit a triple.

Smith picked up the win in the circle. She pitched five innings and didn’t allow an earned run. She had four strikeouts.

New Bremen will face Minster in a sectional final on Tuesday in Wapakoneta.
