Staff report

The Sidney High School football team recently completed a good season, finishing at 6-4.

And there were plenty of highlights to make it a memorable year for head coach Adam Doenges and his staff and players.

The winning record was not only the first since 2003, but just the 11th in the past 42 years.

There were three players who set new school records this past season, including freshman quarterback Andre Gordon, kicker Danny Dean and defensive lineman Devin Santos.

Gordon broke Bill Shoffner’s record for highest pass completion percentage at 65 percent (93-for-143). He wound up with 1,373 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Dean broke the school record for most point-after kicks in a season with 35. The old record was 32 held by Dave Ross.

And Santos set a new school record for the longest fumble return for a touchdown, rumbling 85 yards against West Carrollton in week three.

Following are some of the other highlights from the 2015 season:

• 6-4 record was first winning season since 2003, and 11th in last 42 years

• Ranked fifth overall in the Greater Western Ohio Conference, and second in the GWOC North in total defense — Sidney’s highest ranking since being in the conference

• Ranked fifth overall in the Greater Western Ohio Conference, and second in the GWOC North in total offense — also Sidney’s highest ranking since being in the conference

• Finished with over 1,000 more total yards of offense than in the previous 10 seasons.

• Averaged 30.9 points per game, the fourth-most in school history behind only the unbeaten teams of 1968, ‘69 and ‘70.

• Least amount of points allowed per game (18.9) since being in the GWOC

• Least amount of yards given up since 2009 (2,834)

• Defeated a playoff team (Piqua) and a team that finished with a winning record (also Piqua) for only the second time in the last 10 years and the first time since 2006 (Northmont)
