SIDNEY — Recently, Lehman High School announced the selection of Lehman grad Tim Gleason to take over the reins of the boys varsity basketball program.

Gleason announced recently that he has completed his search for assistant coaches and has filled out his staff.

“This is as fine a staff as you will find anywhere,” Gleason said this week. “I’m very proud to boast of the coaching talent these gentlemen bring to the table. This is a very impressive staff.”

Jason Varnay will serve as varsity assistant. Recently, Varnay served as the freshman and varsity assistant coach at Pace High School in Florida from 2014-2015. Pace made an Elite 8 appearance in the playoffs with a loss to the eventual state champion.

Prior to coaching, he was a point guard at Huntingdon College (NCAA). Huntington was the Great South Atlantic Conference Champion 2010-2011. Varnay was a three-year starter and team captain. He holds second place in school history for most points in a game with 38.

Zac Schmitz, a 2009 Lehman grad, will fill the role of junior varsity coach. Schmitz was a four-year starter at Lehman and was named second-team All-Ohio his senior year. He was named All-Area player of the year and is the career leader in assists and steals at Lehman. Last year he served as the JV coach for the Lehman girls basketball team.

Chris O’Leary, a ‘91 Lehman grad, rounds out the staff and will return to lead the freshman basketball team for the third straight year. Previous to his position at Lehman, O’Leary coached the junior high team at Piqua Catholic for 13 years.
