Lady Jackets 3-0 after 61-29 win

SIDNEY — The Sidney Lady Jackets kept their girls basketball record perfect on the season with a 61-29 victory over visiting Xenia in Greater Western Ohio Conference crossover action Wednesday at the high school.

The Lady Jackets go to 3-0 and face by far their biggest test of the season next Wednesday at home against Centerville in another GWOC crossover game.

The Lady Jackets were only up 28-20 at the half, but allowed Xenia just nine points the entire second half to win the game in a rout.

Celena Taborn finished with 18 to lead Sidney, Sylvia Hudson added 17 and Kaitlyn Davis chipped in a dozen. Hudson made it a double-double with 11 rebounds, and Taborn had 12 of her 18 points in the second half.

“We started off slow, and you could tell it had been 10 days since we played,” said Sidney coach Megan Mummey. “But we really picked it up defensively in the second half. We shared the ball on offense and everybody contributed.”

Minster 52, Versailles 48

MINSTER — Minster remained unbeaten at 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the Midwest Athletic Conference with a key early-season win over defending Division 3 state champion Versailles Tuesday night at Minster, 52-48, in high school girls basketball action.

The Lady Tigers dropped to 0-1 in the MAC and 3-2 overall with New Bremen coming to town tonight. Minster is home to New Knoxville tonight.

Minster led by three at the half at 25-22, but Versailles pulled even after three quarters at 37-all.

In the final period, each team scored just two field goals. The difference was Minster hitting 11 of 14 shots from the free throw line to seven of eight for the Lady Tigers.

Rosie Westerbeck led Minster with 16 and hit six of her eight attempts at the line. Lindsay Roetgerman was 8-for-9 from the line and finished with 14 points. Westerbeck was 6-for-8 from the line in the final quarter.

Overall, Minster was 20-for-24 from the line for the game, Versailles 16-for-24.

Kami McEldowney had 14 for Versailles, Camille Watren 12 and Lauren Monnin 11. McEldowney was 7-for-10 from the line.
