Staff report

The Sidney High swim team will open its season Saturday at the Sidney-Shelby County YMCA against Kettering Alter.

Coach Mary Jannides has 11 girls and 10 boys out this season.

The girsl have five returning swimmers from last year and six new members, and Janides says it’s a rebuilding year for the Lady Jackets.

The boys have eight experienced swimmers, with six currently on the YMCA team.

“The boys have great potential and have set their goal to make the high school districts in individual events and relays,” Jannides said.

Two new members are Collin McClain, a sophomore, and Caleb Johnson, a freshman. The team has one senior, three juniors, four sophomores and two freshmen, so the Jackets will be strong for the next few years.

Jannides said the leading swimmers who could possibly qualify for districts are Chase VanTilburgh, Collin McClain, Caleb Johnson and Logan Searcy.

“It will be an interesting and exciting year for the team,” Jannides said.
