Lehman grad Thobe named All-American

Lehman High School graduate Andrea Thobe has been named an All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, it was announced Tuesday.

Thobe, a junior setter for Wheeling Jesuit, was named to the second team in Division 2. She finished the regular season fifth in NCAA Division 2 and led the conference at 12.78 assists per set. She also led the conference in total assists and was sixth in the nation with 1,557.

This season, she set a season-high 69 assists in a five-set win at Indianapolis. She had 19 double-doubles of assists and digs, and she is also second on the Wheeling team in digs, behind her senior sister Jessica.

Andrea was also voted to the Atlantic Region All-Tournament Team, the AVCA All-Atlantic Region first team, the Conference Commissioners Association All-Atlantic Region first team, the All-Mountain East Conference first team and the MEC all-tournament team.

Wheeling Jesuit played for the national championship last night.

Since last week, Thobe had 35 assists against Clarion, 38 assists and 13 digs against Gannon and 51 assists and 13 digs against Arkansas Fort Smith, the latter in the national semifinals.

Haley Horstman, New Knoxville — Horstman was mobbed Thursday night in the Findlay gym, after her shot at the buzzer found nothing but net to give the Lady Oilers a 73-72 victory over Michigan Tech. It capped a great week for the former Lady Ranger star, who had 22 points and was 8-for-10 from the line in a win over Northwood, and had 17 on 8-for-10 from the field against Michigan Tech.

She has averaged 17.5 points in her last four games to bring her season average to 14.0, tops on the team. Findlay is 6-1.

Jessica Thobe, Lehman — Jessica also plays for Wheeling Jesuit, and had 14 digs against Clarion, 20 against Gannon and 33 against Arkansas Fort Smith.

Erica Huber, Anna — Huber had another good week for Ursuline in women’s basketball. She had 14 points and four assists and was 5-for-6 from the line in a win over Ohio Christian, and had 11 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and was 4-for-5 from the line in a win over Mercyhurst. She leads the team in scoring at 17.3 and is shooting 81 percent from the line.

Margaret Wuebker, Marion Local — A senior, Wuebker also plays at Findlay and against Northwood she had 10 points and against Michigan Tech, she was 7-for-9 from the field and finished with 15 points.

Andy Hoying, Jackson Center — Hoying had a strong game for Mercyhurst in a win over Bloomsburg. He finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Darian Rose, Fort Loramie — Rose had a solid all-around game for Ohio Dominican this week in action against Hillsdale. She finished with seven points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 91-62 victory.
