JACKSON CENTER — Russia pulled of the biggest upset of the County season so far, handing Jackson Center its first loss of the year in a 50-43 verdict Thursday at Jackson in County girls basketball.

Russia is now 2-3 in the league and 3-4 overall. Jackson Center drops to 3-1 and 6-1.

“Russia played hard and played well,” said Jackson coach Scott Doseck.

The Lady Raiders led for most of the game, taking a five-point lead into the final period.

Tiffany Hatcher hit three three-pointers and finished with 15 for Russia, Maria Herron had 11 and Cameo Wilson chipped in 10.

For Jackson, Nicole Fogt had 14.

Anna 59, Houston 41

HOUSTON — Anna remained unbeaten on the year with a 59-41 victory over Houston Thursday at Houston in County girls basketball play.

The Lady Rockets move to 5-0 in the County and are the only unbeaten team left, now standing 7-0. Houston is now 3-2 in the league and 4-6 overall.

The game was close until the final period, with Anna leading just 44-37 after three quarters.

Nicole Barhorst poured in 18 to lead Anna, Macey Huelskamp added 14 and Avery Bensman finished with 10.

Sarah Monnier had 13 and Jenna Winner 12 for Houston.

Botkins 48, Fairlawn 19

BOTKINS — The Botkins Lady Trojans took advantage of shorthanded Fairlawn and rolled to a 48-19 victory in County girls basketball action Thursday.

Botkins goes to 1-4 in the league and 5-4 overall. The Lady Jets, who played without high-scoring Audrey Francis again, fell to 0-6 on the year and 0-9 overall.

The Lady Jets scored just two points in the opening period, and that allowed the Lady Trojans to sprint to a 17-2 bulge after one quarter. It was 32-7 at the half.

Jenna Pitts and Sarah Bergman had 11 each for Botkins, with Bergman scoring eight in the opening quarter. Kayla Heuker added 10 and Paige Lane nine. Lane also had five steals, Heuker four steals and Pitts four assists.

Sidney 61, Springfield 39

SPRINGFIELD — Sidney rolled to a 61-39 victory over Springfield Wednesday night to run its record on the year to 7-0 in high school girls basketball.

The Lady Jackets will return to action Saturday at home in an important Greater Western Ohio Conference North test against Vandalia, which comes in at 6-3 and on a four-game winning streak.

Sidney dominated first-half action to take control quickly against Springfield. The Lady Jackets led 13-6 after a quarter and 30-13 at the half.

Sylvia Hudson and Celena Taborn both had 18 to lead the Lady Jackets. Both finished with double-doubles, with Taborn pulling down 11 rebounds and Hudson 10. Hudson also had four steals and Taborn six blocks. Carrie Nuss added nine points.

Hudson was 8-for-11 from the floor and Taborn 9-for-13. For the game, the Lady Jackets were 26-for-45 for 58 percent.

SIDNEY — Lehman rolled to an easy 56-18 victory over visiting Springfield Catholic in non-league girls basketball Tuesday.

The Lady Cavs evened their record at 3-3 with the win. They led 15-4 after a quarter and 27-11 at the half, then held the Lady Irish to just two points in the second quarter.

Hannah Fogt and Carly Edwards both had 10 points for the Lady Cavs and five other players finished with six. Edwards, just a freshman, pulled down 12 rebounds for a double-double, and Fogt grabbed nine.

NEW KNOXVILLE — New Knoxville had its hands full with visiting St. Henry in Midwest Athletic Conference play, but survived to take a 35-33 victory Thursday night.

The Lady Rangers go to 2-1 in the MAC and 5-2 overall.

St. Henry put the Lady Rangers in quite a hole, so much so that it took a furious fourth-quarter rally to pull out the win. The Lady Redskins were ahead 12-4 after a quarter, 19-10 at the half and 29-22 after three. But the Lady Rangers outscored them 15-4 in the final period.

Jenna Schwieterman had 12 for Knoxville and Rachel Leffel 10.

St. Henry (33) — Stammen 11, Brockman 4, Rose 9, Siefring 3, King 2, Keller 4.

VERSAILLES — Versailles won its third in a row, dominating Parkway in MAC action Thursday, 89-27.

The win put Versailes at 1-3 in the league and 7-4 overall.

Kami McEldowney had 20 before sitting out the final period. Lauren Monnin added 12 and also played just three quarters.

Versailles had eight other players rthat scored five or more points.

FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery jumped to a 28-14 lead after a quarter and then played New Bremen on equal terms in the second half to beat the Lady Cardinals 52-38 in MAC action.

Recovery goes to 3-0 in the MAC and 5-1 overall. New Bremen is now 2-1 in the league and 5-3 overall.

New Bremen was led by Paige Jones with 13 points and Debbie Paul with 11.
