Sidney upset by Piqua in OT

PIQUA — Piqua bombarded Sidney with three-pointers to gain the upper hand in the first half and went on to upset the Yellow Jackets Friday in a Greater Western Ohio Conference North boys basketball thriller at Piqua, 86-84.

The Jackets head into a big challenge starting Tuesday in the Columbus DeSales Holiday Tournament. Sidney will play Logan Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Piqua led 24-17 after a quarter, and by the midway point of the second period, already had six three-pointers in the game, forcing Sidney to play catch-up the entire night.

Sidney cut the lead to 51-47 with two-and-a-half minutes left in the third quarter, only to see the Indians pull back out to a 10-point lead at 59-49.

Isaiah Bowser’s three made it 59-52, but Piqua led 61-52 heading to the final period.

The Jackets rallied down the stretch and pulled even with :52 left on a bucket by Lorenzo Taborn. He was fouled on the play, but couldn’t convert, and the game ultimately went to overtime.

Piqua again dominated at the start, and built up an 86-81 cushion before Cameron Gallimore hit a three at the buzzer.

Gallimore was outstanding for Sidney, pouring in 28 and hitting six three-pointers. Taborn added 17 and Devan Rogers 15.

SIDNEY — Lehman’s young Cavaliers lost for the third straight time, this one Friday night at home to Waynesfield-Goshen in Northwest Central Conference action.

The Cavs are 1-1 in the league and 1-3 overall and are at Minster Monday night.

The Cavs led 33-27 at the half but Waynesfield outscored them 32-23 in the final two periods.

Michael Bunker and Max Schutt had 12 apiece for Lehman and Dylan Arnold 11.

Russia 55, Houston 40

RUSSI — The Russia Raider held Houston to just four points in the third quarter to pull away and roll to a 55-40 County win in action Friday at Russia.

The win puts the Raiders at 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the league heading to Jackson Center Tuesday. Houston is 2-5 overall and 0-4 in the league and is at Minster tonight.

“We started out with four turnovers, and they were getting some easy baskets,” said Russia coach Spencer Cordonnier. “We tried to press but we eventually just played half-court defense and the kids guarded.”

Jonah Counts had 13 to lead Russia and Cole Tebbe added 11. Ten Raiders in all scored, and they hit eight three-pointers:

SIDNEY — Jackson Center rallied from a seven-point deficit after three periods to send the game to overtime, then pulled out a 57-54 victory in double overtime Friday at Fairlawn.

Jackson remained perfect with the win, standing at 4-0 in the league and 5-0 overall. Fairlawn is 2-3 and 4-4.

Brady Wildermuth had 24, Drew Sosby 19 and Ethan Zorn 12 for Jackson. Nathan Lessing had 24 for Fairlawn, Drew Brautigam 12 and Aaron Hammond 10.

ANNA — Anna built up a 19-point lead after three periods and went on to whip Fort Loramie in the third County game of the night, 53-34 Friday at Anna.

The Rockets got a double-double from Kain Luthman to lead the way. He had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Cody Flesher also had 12 points and Blake Stephens 10.

For Loramie, Drew Wehrman finished with 14.
