SIDNEY — Fairlawn junior standout Audrey Francis came back from missing two-plus games with an ankle injury and showed no ill-effects from the injury in leading the Lady Jets to a 56-47 victory over visiting Mechanicsburg in non-league action Monday night.

Francis, who scored the 1,000th point of her career back on Nov. 26, poured in 35 points to lead the Jets to the victory, which gave them a 1-9 record on the season with Bethel coming to town next Monday. She also pulled down 11 rebounds to register a double-double.

Francis had 13 of Fairlawn’s 24 points in the first half, leading to a 24-17 lead. Mechanicsburg cut five points off that lead in the third quarter, however, making it a 38-36 Fairlawn lead with eight minutes to go.

The Lady Jets made sure to keep the ball in the hot hands of Francis down the stretch. She went to the line 10 times in the final period alone and dropped in all 10 to secure the victory.

For the game, Francis was 16-for-18 from the free throw line, 89 percent, and was 8-for-18 from the field. She attempted three three-pointers and hit them all.

She got scoring help from Mollie Roe, who added 10 points for the Lady Jets, while Lauren Dudgeon grabbed seven rebounds to help the Lady Jets to a 25-20 advantage on the boards.

Fairlawn finished 16-for-43 from the field for 37 percent and 20-for-28 from the line for 71 percent.

Mechanicsburg was 17-for-48 from the field for 35 percent and just 9-for-17 from the line.

Marion 36, Russia 35

MARIA STEIN — The Russia Lady Raiders lost a tough one on the road Monday night, falling to Marion Local 36-35 in non-league girls basketball action.

Russia is now 3-6 on the year with New Knoxville next up at home next Monday. Marion Local goes to 6-3 on the year and snaps a two-game losing streak. The Lady Flyers next compete in the Wapakoneta Holiday Tournament starting Monday.

The Lady Raiders did a good job of battling back from a nine-point halftime deficit, taking a one-point lead after a strong third quarter. But they couldn’t quite hang on.

Maria Herron hit three threes and led Russia with 12 points. The Lady Raiders were without Tiffany Hatcher, who was injured in Saturday’s game with Versailles.

Emily Mescher had 10 for the Lady Flyers.
