Area football roundup: Anna fights off pesky Fort Recovery for 39-34 win

ANNA — Anna fought back from an early deficit and fought off a pesky Fort Recovery team to earn a 39-34 win in a Midwest Athletic Conference game on Friday.

Fort Recovery took a 21-6 lead by the end of the first quarter, but Riley Huelskamp scored on touchdown runs of one, four and five yards in the second quarter to boost the Rockets’ lead to 26-21 at halftime.

Bart Bixler threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Justin Murray in the third quarter to boost Anna’s lead to 33-21.

Clay Schmitz scored on a 10-yard to bring the Indians’ within five points, but Bixler scored on a 39-yard run to boost the lead to 39-28. Schmitz threw a 64-yard touchdown pass to Robert LeFevre to cut the lead to six, but Fort Recovery couldn’t pull closer.

Anna had 363 yards of total offense, while Fort Recovery had 380.

Huelskamp rushed for 191 yards on 28 carries and scored four touchdowns, including a 2-yard run in the first quarter. Bixler ran for 89 yards on 17 carries and completed 6-of-12 passes for 63 yards. Jeffrey Richards caught three passes for 45 yards.

Schmitz threw of 225 yards and two touchdowns with one interception.

Kamren Steward led Anna with 8.5 tackles, two of which were for loss. Steward also had an interception.

Anna (5-2, 4-1 MAC) will travel to Coldwater (7-0, 5-0) next Friday.

Fort Loramie 64, Mississinawa Valley 20

The Redskins built a 57-6 halftime lead on their way to a big Cross County Conference victory on Friday in Fort Loramie.

No statistics were reported.

Fort Loramie (6-1, 4-0 CCC) will travel to Tri-Village (3-4, 1-4) next Friday.

Waynesfield-Goshen 22, Lehman Catholic 3

Lehman Catholic lost its first Northwest Central Conference game since 2016 on Friday in Waynesfield.

The Cavaliers (4-3, 3-1 NWCC) amassed 146 yards of offense and had three turnovers. Lehman converted 1-of-12 third downs.

The Cavaliers will host Upper Scioto Valley (2-5, 1-3) next Friday.

St. Henry 34, Minster 14

The Redskins scored one touchdown in each the first, second, third and fourth quarters to build a 26-0 lead over Minster in a MAC win on Friday.

The Wildcats (5-2, 3-2 MAC) didn’t score a touchdown until Alex Schmitmeyer ran in on a 3-yard run with 2:28 left in the fourth quarter.

St. Henry racked up 470 yards of offense while Minster gained 250.

Jacob Niemeyer completed 14-of-23 passes for 150 yards with two interceptions for Minster while Schmitmeyer gained 62 yards on 15 carries. Mike Ketner led Minster with four receptions for 51 yards and had a team-high 6.5 tackles.

Zach Niekamp rushed for 201 yards and three touchdowns for St. Henry with three touchdowns and Sam Lefeld completed 13-of-19 passes for 178 yards with one interception.

The Wildcats will host Marion Local (7-0, 5-0) next Friday.

New Bremen 33, Parkway 13

The Cardinals built a 20-6 halftime lead on their way to a MAC win on Friday.

Nolan Bornhorst completed 10-of-12 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns for New Bremen and also led the team with 15 carries for 92 yards with one TD. Nicholas Wells ran for 50 yards on 13 carries and completed a 29-yard touchdown pass to Mitchell Hays late in the first quarter.

Zach Bertke ran for 36 yards on three carries and scored one touchdown. Grant Selby led the Cardinals with two receptions for 76 yards with one touchdown.

New Bremen had 427 yards of offense while Parkway had 212.

Ben Kuck led the Cardinals with 7.5 sacks and Wells had 6.5.

New Bremen (4-3, 2-3) will travel to Versailles (2-5, 1-4) next Friday.

Riverside 40, Upper Scioto Valley 0

The Pirates built a 21-0 halftime lead on their way to a lopsided NWCC win on Friday.

No statistics were reported.

Riverside (4-3, 3-1 NWCC) will travel to Lima Perry (6-1, 4-0) next Friday.

Marion Local 49, Versailles 14

The Flyers scored six consecutive touchdowns to run away from Versailles in a MAC game on Friday.

Marion Local had 467 total yards of offense while Versailles had 209.

Versailles quarterback Ryan Martin completed 10-of-21 passes for 147 yards with one touchdown and one interception and led the team with 52 rushing yards on 10 carries with one touchdown. Andrew DeMange led the team with seven receptions for 91 yards.

Nate Bruns completed 10-of-15 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns for Marion Local while Nolan Habodasz ran for 148 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries.

Jared DeMange led Versailles with nine tackles while Andrew DeMange had eight tackles.

The Tigers (2-5, 1-4 MAC) will host New Bremen (4-3, 2-3) next Friday.
