Area tournament draw: Jackson Center earns No. 1 seed in D-IV volleyball

Another year, another No. 1 seed for Jackson Center.

The Tigers were voted the No. 1 seed in the Dayton Division IV sectional on Sunday and will look to begin their quest for their 12th consecutive district title on Oct. 16.

Tournament draw meetings for volleyball and boys and girls soccer were held throughout southwest Ohio on Sunday.

Along with Jackson Center, Russia was voted the No. 2 seed. Both the Tigers and Raiders will play their sectional matches at Troy High School. Jackson Center went into the Troy upper bracket, while Russia went into the bottom.

Jackson Center will open tournament play on Oct. 16 against No. 28 Triad and would advance to face No. 29 East Dayton Christian in a second-round match on Oct. 20. If the Tigers win in the second round, they’ll likely face No. 8 Springfield Emmanuel Christian in a sectional final on Oct. 24.

Russia will open on Oct. 17 against No. 27 Dayton Jefferson and would face No. 25 Xenia Legacy Christian in the second round on Oct 20. If Russia wins both its first two matches, its likely sectional final opponent on Oct. 24 would be No. 9 Mechanicsburg.

Lehman Catholic was voted the No. 4 seed, Fort Loramie was voted No. 6, Fairlawn was voted No. 10, Houston was voted No. 17, Riverside was voted No. 18 and Botkins was voted No. 24. All five squads went into brackets that will play matches at Covington High School.

Lehman will open postseason play on Oct. 16 against No. 26 Ansonia and would face Botkins in the second round. Fairlawn will open tournament play against No. 7 Yellow Springs on Oct. 16 and if victorious will play No. 15 Catholic Central in the second round. The winners of the two second-round games will play in a sectional final on Oct. 24.

Riverside will face No. 16 Twin Valley South in a second-round match on Oct. 20. With a victory, the Pirates would likely face No. 5 Tri-Village in a sectional final on Oct. 24.

Fort Loramie will open tournament play against No. 22 Bradford on Oct. 17. If the Redskins win, they’ll face No. 19 Dayton Christian in the second round. Houston will open postseason play in a second-round match against the winner of No. 3 Franklin-Monroe and No. 23 Cedarville. The winners of the second round games will face off in a sectional final on Oct. 24.

Anna was voted the No. 2 seed in the Dayton Div. III sectional and will play all sectional matches at Brookville High School. The Rockets will open postseason play on Oct. 17 against No. 16 Indian Lake and will face No. 18 Carlisle in a second-round match. With two victories, Anna would advance to a sectional final on Oct. 24, likely against No. 6 West Liberty-Salem.

Versailles, the defending Div. III state champion, was voted the No. 1 seed in D-III. The Tigers will start postseason play on Oct. 18 against No. 17 Meadowdale and will face No. 19 Northridge in the second round on Oct. 20. If Versailles wins both, its likely sectional final opponent on Oct. 25 will be No. 7 Milton-Union.

Sidney was voted the No. 10 seed in Div. I and will play its tournament matches at Vandalia-Butler. The Yellow Jackets will face either No. 4 Miamisburg or No. 16 Xenia in a second-round match on Oct. 20. A win would put Sidney in a sectional final on Oct. 24, likely against No. 5 Troy.

Girls soccer

Anna earns No. 1 seed in D-III

Anna was voted the No. 1 seed in the Dayton Division III sectional, while Lehman Catholic was No. 3 and Botkins was No. 13. Sidney is the No. 6 seed in Div. I.

The Rockets will open postseason play on Oct. 20 against the winner of No. 16 Newton vs. No 21 New Lebanon Dixie. With a win, the Rockets will play in a sectional final on Oct. 23, likely against No. 12 Miami Valley.

Lehman Catholic will start tournament play on Oct. 20 against either No. 18 Indian Lake or No. 19 Benjamin Logan. With a win, the Cavaliers will play in a sectional final on Oct. 23, likely against No. 8 Greeneview.

Botkins will host No. 26 National Trail in a sectional opener on Oct. 16. A win would put the Trojans in a second-round game against No. 5 Troy Christian. If Botkins beats the Eagles, it would advance to a sectional final game on Oct. 23, likely against No. 6 Preble Shawnee.

Sidney made the first district final in school history last year but will have a tough road to earn a second. The Yellow Jackets will open tournament play on Oct. 20 against either No. 4 Troy or No. 7 Miamisburg. Troy beat Sidney 2-1 in regular season.

If Sidney beats Troy or Miamisburg, it would advance to a sectional on Oct. 23 against, likely against No. 2 Centerville. The Elks beat Sidney 2-1 in a nonconference game on Monday.

All soccer sectional tournament games are played at the higher seed’s field.

Boys soccer

Botkins No. 6 in D-III

Botkins earned the No. 6 seed in the Dayton Division III sectional, while Jackson Center was No. 17, Lehman Catholic was No. 18 and Fairlawn was No. 29. Sidney is the No. 11 seed in Division I.

The Trojans will open tournament play against either No. 9 Miami East or No. 25 Stivers in a second-round match on Oct. 18. A win would put them in a sectional final on Oct. 22, likely against No. 7 Greeneview.

Lehman will open postseason play against No. 16 Middletown Madison on Oct. 15 and would advance to face No. 3 West Liberty-Salem in a second-round game.

Jackson Center will open tournament play on Oct. 18 in a second-round game against No. 21 Twin Valley South. A win would put the Tigers in a sectional final on Oct. 22, likely against No. 1 Dayton Christian. Dayton Christian will open tournament play against Emmanuel Christian and will then face Fairlawn on Oct. 18.

Sidney will face No. 10 Fairborn in a first-round match on Oct. 15. If the Yellow Jackets win, they’ll face No. 1 Beavercreek on Oct. 18.

All soccer sectional tournament games are played at the higher seed’s field.
