Tuesday roundup: Sidney boys soccer beats Greenville 5-1

SIDNEY — Braden Guinther scored two goals while Alijah Jackson, Carson Taylor and Jaxon Rickey each scored one in Sidney’s 5-1 GWOC American North Division win over Greenville on Tuesday.

Jackson had two assists while Damien Jones, John Holloway and Taylor each had one.

Goalkeeper Noah Houts had 10 saves and broke Sidney’s career saves record on Tuesday. He now has 254 career saves, which surpasses the previous record of 252.

Sidney led 2-1 at halftime before Guinther scored two goals and Jackson scored one in the second half to help the Yellow Jackets run away.

“We played really great tonight, considering it was senior night and we wanted to send the seniors out on a good note, before we start tournament play on Monday,” Sidney coach Jamie Fridley said.

Sidney finishes regular season 7-7-2 overall and 4-4-2 in GWOC divisional play. The Yellow Jackets will open tournament play on Monday at Fairborn. The Skyhawks beat the Yellow Jackets 3-2 in a GWOC crossover game on Sept. 4.

Taylor Noll, Taylor Kauffmann and Mackinsie Littlefield each scored goals in the Rockets’ nonconference win over Bethel on Tuesday.

Noll, Sara Ham and Bre Tribbett each had one assist and Savanna Hostetler had two saves in the shutout win.

Botkins 0, Lima Central Catholic 0

The Trojans tied Lima Central Catholic in their last Western Ohio Soccer League match of the season. Botkins (7-4-4) finishes WOSL play 3-2-1.

Volleyball

Sidney 3, Vandalia-Butler 2

Sidney edged Butler 15-13 in the fifth set on Tuesday to earn a win in a Greater Western Ohio Conference American North Division match.

Sidney won the first game 25-22 and third 33-31 while the Aviators won the second 25-22 and fourth 25-23.

Alina Kindle led the Yellow Jackets with 24 kills and Arielle Snider drilled 19 while Abby Nuss knocked down nine. Snider and Faith Bockrath each tallied four solo blocks. Bockrath set up the front line with 53 assists, setting 131-of-132.

Allie Herrick fired off six aces and Nuss landed four. Kindle also led the defense with 16 digs and Payton Boshears picked up 13.

Russia 3, Houston 0

Russia wrapped up a share of its first Shelby County Athletic League title since 2003 with a 25-16, 25-20, 25-15 win over Houston on Tuesday.

Ashley Scott had 15 kills and 10 digs for the Raiders while Laurissa Poling had 11 kills, six blocks, two aces and 12 digs. Morgan Wenrick had seven kills and two aces, Jess York had five kills, Kendall Monnin had 11 digs and Jenna Cordonnier had 32 assists, two aces, three blocks and eight digs.

“So proud of the girls,” Russia coach Aaron Watkins said. “This was a goal for them from day one and to see them achieve it is awesome! It has been 15 years since the last SCAL title in volleyball so none of these girls remember that. We have a few more goals to check off the list coming up in tournament.”

Hayden Riesenbeck, Catryn Mohler and Mackenzie Wenrick each had three kills for Houston. Alyssa Kemp had 14 assists and six digs, Allisen Foster had six digs, Hannah Bixler had seven digs, Olivia Bowser had 11 digs and Mariah Booher had five digs.

Russia finishes regular season 16-6 overall and 11-1 in SCAL play while Houston finishes 2-10 and 6-16, respectively.

Jackson Center 3, Fairlawn 0

Jackson Center wrapped up a share of the SCAL title with a 25-8, 25-10, 25-16 win over Fairlawn on Tuesday.

Raquel Kessler led the Tigers with 21 kills while Caroline Frieders had 26 assists and Katie Sosby had seven digs.

Lauren Dudgeon had nine kills, 11 digs and one block for Fairlawn. Jessie Abke had five kills and six digs, Taylor Lessing had six digs and 16 assists and MaCalla Huelskamp had two kills and seven digs.

Jackson Center finishes regular season 19-3 overall and 11-1 in SCAL play while Fairlawn finishes 4-8 in SCAL play.

Fort Loramie 3, Botkins 0

Fort Loramie won a SCAL match 25-14, 25-12, 25-18 on Tuesday.

Chloe Stang led the Redskins with nine kills while Ava Sholtis and Marissa Meiring each had five. Maya Maurer had 13 assists and Aleah Frilling had 11, while Sholtis had seven digs and Hannah Pleiman had four aces.

Janell Greve led Botkins with six kills and nine digs and Meg Russell had nine assists and six digs.

Fort Recovery 3, New Bremen 0

Fort Recovery hurt New Bremen’s Midwest Athletic Conference title hopes by winning a conference match 25-14, 25-23, 25-20 on Tuesday.

Taylor Paul had seven kills while Claire Pape had six for New Bremen. Blake Snider had 14 digs.

St. Henry 3, Minster 0

St. Henry won a MAC match 25-17, 25-19, 25-23 on Tuesday.

Ava Sharp had seven kills for Minster while Danielle Barhorst had six. Lilly Pelletier had three aces, Brynn Oldiges had four blocks, Averi Wolf had three blocks, Emily Stubbs had 21 digs and Barhorst had 11 digs.

New Knoxville 3, Parkway 0

The Rangers won a MAC match 25-12, 25-12, 25-8 on Tuesday.

Tasia Lauth had 11 kills, Avery Henschen had seven kills two solo blocks and two block assists and Megan Jurosic had seven kills and two solo blocks. Tayler Doty had 12 digs and Carly Fledderjohann had 25 assists.
