Jackson Center senior outside hitter Raquel Kessler is the Shelby County Athletic League player of the year again.

Kessler, who has verbally committed to play collegiately at University of Missouri-St. Louis, was named the league’s player of the year on Monday. It’s the second consecutive season she’s earned the honor.

Kessler led the Tigers (19-3) with 395 kills, 31 aces and 29 blocks in regular season. She also was second with 251 digs.

Russia senior middle hitter Laurissa Poling and senior setter Jenna Cordonnier, Anna senior middle hitter Emma Meyer and setter Lexi Wells and Jackson Center senior libero Katelyn Sosby joined Kessler on first team.

Meyer, Wells, and Poling were also first-team selections last year while Sosby was second team and Cordonnier was honorable mention.

Poling led Russia with 242 kills and 76 blocks in regular season. Cordonnier had 625 assists and was second on the team in digs (208) and blocks (43).

Meyer led Anna with 308 kills and 91 blocks while Wells had 714 assists and 161 digs. Sosby led Jackson Center with 271 digs.

Fort Loramie junior Marissa Meiring and senior Emily Austin, Jackson Center senior Caroline Frieders, Anna junior Macy Wiktorowski, Russia sophomore Ashley Scott and Fairlawn senior Lauren Dudgeon were named second team.

Meiring and Wiktorowski were second-team selections last year, while Austin and Frieders were honorable mention.

Meiring led the Redskins with 215 kills and 28 aces and was second with 219 digs. Austin was first on the team with 266 digs.

Frieders led Jackson Center this regular season with 439 assists and was third in kills (112), aces (24) and digs (140). Wiktorowski was second on Anna’s team with 147 kills and 26 aces.

Scott was second for Russia with 234 kills and led the team with 51 aces. She was also third with 178 digs. Dudgeon led Fairlawn with 256 kills and 37 blocks and was fourth with 176 digs.

Anna’s Abby Counts, Botkins’ Janell Greve, Fairlawn’s Jessie Abke and Taylor Lessing, Fort Loramie freshman Ava Sholtis, Houston seniors Olivia Bowser and Alyssa Kemp, Jackson Center junior Elizabeth Hickey and Russia sophomore Kendall Monnin were named honorable mention.

All-SCAL teams are determined by voting among the league’s coaches.
