Tuesday roundup: Minster beats Delphos St. John’s in tourney opener

MINSTER — After losing a close first set of a Division IV sectional opener on Tuesday, Minster rebounded and earned a 3-1 defeat of Delphos St. John’s.

The Blue Jays won the first set 25-22 but Minster won the next three 25-14, 25-6 and 25-11.

Danielle Barhorst led the Wildcats with nine kills while Ava Sharp had eight and Averi Wolf had seven. Ivy Wolf had seven aces, Brynn Oldiges had four blocks and both Sharp and Lilly Pelletier each had three blocks.

Emily Stubbs had 12 digs while Ivy Wolf had 12 and Barhorst had 11. Kaitlyn Wolf had 22 assists and Brooke Wolf had 14.

Minster (13-10) advances to face New Bremen (17-4) in a second-round match on Thursday.

Jackson Center 3, Triad 0

Raquel Kessler surpassed 1,000 career kills as Jackson Center opened Div. IV sectional play with a 25-12, 25-7, 25-12 depantsing of Triad on Tuesday in Troy.

Kessler had 23 kills and three blocks while Caroline Frieders had 23 assists and Katie Sosby had seven digs.

The Tigers (20-3) advance to face East Dayton Christian in a sectional semifinal on Saturday in Troy.

New Knoxville 3, Waynesfield-Goshen 0

New Knoxville dominated a D-IV sectional opener on Tuesday, winning 25-9, 25-5, 25-7 at home.

Tayler Doty had nine kills and 12 digs while Tasia Lauth had nine kills. Erin Scott had 12 digs and Carly Fledderjohann had 33 assists.

The Rangers (15-8) advance to face Fort Recovery (15-2) in a second-round match on Thursday.

Girls soccer

Botkins 3, National Trail 0

The Trojans earned a victory in a Div. III sectional quarterfinal on Tuesday in Botkins.

Katie Egbert scored two unassisted goals while Sydney Meyer scored a goal on an assist from Ellie Steinke.

Botkins (8-4-4) advances to face Troy Christian in a sectional semifinal on Thursday in Troy.
